In the pinweight (60 kg) category, Haryana-based boxer Preeti Dahiya makes no mistakes in the ring. At the recently held Khelo India event, Preity emerged as a rising star in the boxing event category at the national level. The boxer is also a gold medalist at the Asian Youth Boxing Championship 2021. In a short span of time, Preeti has won more than nine gold medals in various national and international competitions.
Preeti was earlier a kabaddi player, but quit kabaddi on her father’s advice and started playing boxing. The star boxer dedicates her success to her coach and family. According to Preeti, ‘A coach plays an important role in the life of any player. No player can shine without a good coach.’
Her coach and mentor told the media that Preity’s belief in hard work and determination has led to success. From winning a bronze at the School Games to winning a silver medal at the 2018 All India School Championship, Preity Dahiya hasn’t looked back. She became the youngest player to win gold at the Asian Boxing Championships in 2019, which is also a world record.
Currently, Preity is working tirelessly to fulfill her dream of winning a gold medal for the country at the Olympics. This boxer wants to shine the name of the country and society by hoisting the Indian flag on the prestigious podium. She is looking to break the record of no Indian woman boxer ever winning a gold medal for the country at the Olympics.
