Ahmedabad: A magnificent foot overbridge has been built between Alice Bridge and Sardar Bridge on the Sabarmati River in Ahmedabad at a cost of Rs.80 crore. The bridge has not been inaugurated by the government even after four months of completion. So the citizens had to be content with seeing this beautiful bridge from a distance. Today, this foot overbridge was inaugurated by Congress workers from the eastern end of the Sabarmati riverfront amid heavy rains. Congress corporators and activists inaugurated the foot overbridge under the leadership of Leader of Opposition Shehzad Khan Pathan.
It is to be noted that the assembly elections are going to be held in the state at the end of the year, so the BJP government was waiting for a good opportunity for the inauguration. Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation Leader of Opposition Shehzad Khan Pathan said that the foot overbridge built at a cost of more than Rs.80 crore was not inaugurated for the last 3 months due to lack of time of BJP leaders. So, respecting the public sentiment, the foot over bridge has been opened for the public today along with the Congress councillors-workers. We have been demanding the opening of the bridge in the Congress General Board for four months. But the BJP is refraining from inaugurating the bridge in view of the elections.
The Congress had long demanded the opening of a footover bridge over the Sabarmati river. He also made presentations on this in AMC. Today, the bridge is opened to the public from the eastern end of the riverfront with drums and balloons.
The bridge was completed in May this year. This bridge has been prepared at a cost of Rs.80 crore between Alicebridge and Sardarbridge on Sabarmati river. Then there was a plan to inaugurate this iconic foot overbridge by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
