A women’s helpline Abhayam 181 is functioning by the government for the protection and counseling of women in the state. A 15-year-old minor in Ahmedabad fell in love with a married man twice her age and insisted on staying with him. So the woman sought help from the helpline and the helpline team explained to her and assured her that she would pay attention to her studies.
In another case, the husband absconded with the child from his wife living in Pier on the pretext of playing. The woman took the help of the helpline team and reached home and returned the child to her mother and gave legal advice to her husband and mother-in-law.
The women’s helpline received a call from Ahmedabad’s Shastrinagar area that her 15-year-old daughter was in love with a man twice her age and insisted on staying with her and threatened to fall to her death and stab her in the leg. So the women’s helpline team reached there immediately.
‘My 15-year-old daughter fell in love with a 29-year-old man’
Her mother told the women’s helpline team that she has two daughters in the family. One is 15 years old and the other is six months old. A 15-year-old daughter has fallen in love with a 29-year-old man who lives opposite her house as a son-in-law and now insists on living with him. He threatens to fall from the 14th floor and stab himself with a blade.
‘I will leave my wife and boy and be with you’
When the women’s helpline team asked the daughter, she said that she had befriended the young man after which they had exchanged each other’s numbers and used to go out with him. He also has a son. He said, I will leave my wife and boy and stay with you. He used to ask for a photo from him. Now he has told that everyone has come to know so I will not talk about it, he said that he will get married after turning eighteen years old. The women’s helpline team explained to her that all this is wrong and attention should be paid to education. The young man was also called and explained that this is his schooling age. Even the minor was convinced by her.
‘Husband ran away with my child’
In another case, a 23-year-old woman from the eastern area of Ahmedabad got a call on the helpline saying that her husband has run away with her child. On reaching the said address, the helpline team found that she has been staying at her mother’s house for six months due to harassment by her husband at home. Four days ago she gave birth to a child. All the expenses were borne by the woman’s mother. The in-laws did not even come to meet at the hospital. The in-laws forcibly came to take the child so the in-laws ran away while the woman called the police.
Later, the husband came home on the pretext of playing with the child and ran away with the child. The helpline team accompanied the sister to her in-laws. Where the door of his house was locked. Asking the neighbor did not get any answer, but on checking there is another door behind the house, her husband, child and mother-in-law were found. Where everyone was explained and the child was returned to the woman. The in-laws also gave legal insight to the party.
