Big news has come out regarding the service charge being levied in the restaurant. The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has banned the charging of service charges in hotel and restaurant bills. Hotels and restaurants will not be able to force customers to pay a service charge. Whether or not to pay the service charge will be entirely voluntary, optional and at the discretion of the consumers. Strict action will be taken against any hotel or restaurant that tries to add service charge to the bill.
What is a service charge?
When you buy a product or service you have to pay some money for it. This is called service charge. Service charges are charged from customers for serving meals and other services in hotels and restaurants. Hotels and restaurants typically charge a five percent service charge.
The government, meanwhile, has said that if hotels and restaurants try to charge exorbitant service charges, customers can complain by calling the 1915 helpline number.
