Bhuj: Due to heavy rains in West Kutch, many roads have been washed away, while Lakshmirani village on the Mandvi-Lakhpat-Narayan Sarovar state highway has been cut off for the last 13 days and the locals are in dire straits. Apart from light, water, food, the expensive livestock are also not getting treatment and more than 100 animals have died in these 13 tough days, and the families of Maldhari have suffered a heavy financial blow. Due to heavy rains, the Mandvi-Narayan Sarovar state highway passing through here has become unusable.
The check dam constructed in the Budha River near the village overflowed and the poles of the power lines coming to the village were submerged in water. Villagers have been forced to spend days in darkness as they report to the power officer that it is impossible to work in this situation. Drinking water is also not available. With water tankers coming but not stopping, dirty rainwater has to be used due to which small children and elders are getting sick. The villagers alleged that no concrete action was taken by the administration of Kutch amid such a dire situation.
Meanwhile, amidst the forecast of heavy to heavy rains by the Meteorological Department, the Kutch desert received only scattered showers of half to an inch of water.
