Modi government's Agneepath project challenged in Supreme Court, petitions to be heard next week

A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court against the Modi government’s Agneepath project. The apex court on Monday said it would hear petitions challenging the Centre’s ‘Agneepath’ scheme for recruitment into the armed forces next week. Judges Indira Banerjee and J.K. Maheshwari’s vacation bench said petitions against the Agneepath project would be listed before the appropriate bench next week when the apex court reopens after the summer vacation.
Notably, the scheme was announced in June, under which youths in the age group of 17 to 21 years will be inducted into the Armed Forces for a term of four years. While 25 per cent of them will be eligible to join the regular service.

The Army and Navy began the recruitment process on July 1st

Notably, the Army and Navy have started their recruitment process from Friday, July 1. The IAF started the recruitment process on June 24 under the scheme. After four years of service, the firefighters received Rs. 11.71 lakh will be received. After four years, 25 percent of firefighters will receive a permanent appointment. Firefighters retiring after four years will be given priority in the Central Para Military Forces and Defense Public Sector Undertakings.

What is Agneepath Yojana?

The Ministry of Defense has adopted a new process for the recruitment of soldiers in the Army, Air Force and Navy, which has been named Agneepath. The youths to be recruited under the Agneepath scheme will be identified as Agniveer. The first batch of firefighters will arrive in 2023. There is a provision to train firefighters for 10 weeks to 6 months. The firefighters will get a package of Rs 4.76 lakh for the first year, which will increase to Rs. 6.92 lakh.

One crore amount on getting Veeragati

A sum of Rs. One crore will be given to the close relatives of Agniveer on receipt of Veeragati during the period of service. At the same time, if Agnaveer is disabled, he will be given a relief of Rs 48 lakh.
