Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut reached the Mumbai office of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) at around 12 noon on Friday. Raut has been called for questioning in the land scam case. Raut said outside the ED office- I am a fearless person because I have never done anything wrong in my life. This is all political, we will know about it later. At the moment I feel that I am going to a neutral agency and I have full faith in them.
The ED had given notice to Raut to appear on June 29 for questioning in the Patra Chawl land scam case. Thereafter, Raut’s lawyer went to the Mumbai ED office and sought deferment for his appearance. He had cited less time to present the documents. Raut has also been asked to bring documents related to Patra Chawl land scam.
Raut had called the notice a conspiracy
Earlier on Monday, he had also tweeted, terming the ED summons as a conspiracy, ‘Now I understand why the ED has summoned me. It’s good. Big developments are going on in Maharashtra. All of us Shiv Sainiks of Balasaheb have joined a big fight. This conspiracy is going on. Even if my neck is cut, I will not go on the way to Guwahati. Let us go. arrest me! Jai Maharashtra!’
ED has talked about a scam of Rs 1,034 crore regarding the land of Patra Chawl in Mumbai. Sanjay Raut has got a notice in this case.
ED attached Raut’s assets on April 5
The ED had arrested Maharashtra businessman and Raut’s close aide Praveen Raut in February in connection with the Rs 1,034 crore Patra Chawl land scam, after which Sanjay Raut’s name was also added to the case. On April 5, the ED had attached a flat each in Dadar and Mumbai along with Raut’s Alibaug plot in the same case.
Sanjay Raut’s wife also accused
When ED caught Praveen, Sanjay Raut’s name surfaced. Praveen is a friend of Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut. Praveen’s wife had also given a loan of Rs 83 lakh to Sanjay Raut’s wife Varsha, which was used by the Raut family to buy a flat in Dadar. When the investigation started, Varsha returned Rs 55 lakh to Praveen’s wife.
Praveen Shinde, who was arrested in the Patra Chawl case, and Sanjay Raut’s wife Varsha were said to have a transaction of large sums of money.
Another accused in this case Sujit Patkar is also linked to Sanjay Raut. Sujit is a partner in a firm of Sanjay’s daughter. Sujit’s wife and Sanjay Raut’s wife together bought land in Alibaug. This land was also taken from scam money.
This is a case of land scam
In 2007, an agreement was signed between Guruashish Construction and Maharashtra Housing and Development Authority. The Maharashtra Housing and Development Authority had entrusted Guruashish with the task of redeveloping 672 flats owned by the tenants of Patra Chawl. Let us tell you that Guruashish Construction is the sister company of Housing Development and Infrastructure Limited.
It was also decided in the agreement that about 3,000 flats would have to be handed over to the Maharashtra Housing and Development Authority. These flats were to be built on 47 acres of land owned by the authority, but instead of re-developing the flat and handing over the remaining flats to the authority, the land was sold to eight different builders for Rs 1,34 crore.
Praveen Raut was a director in Housing Development and Infrastructure Limited along with Sarang Wadhawan and Rakesh Wadhawan. In March 2018, the authority lodged an FIR against Guruashish Construction. In this case, in February 2020, the Economic Offenses Wing arrested Praveen Raut. Praveen Raut was released on bail. Recently, the ED had arrested again.
