The government is collecting information from GIDC estates across Gujarat regarding the use of a chemical called methanol after the Lattakkad in Botad, Barwala. Then about 100 units from Valsad district including Vapi, Sarigam, Umargam consume methanol. In which an average of 15 lakh liters of methanol is consumed every month. The IG held a meeting with the representatives of industries, transport including Vapi, Sarigam at Surat to ensure that there is no wrongdoing regarding the stock of methanol and that an incident like Lathtankand does not happen in South Gujarat.
Valsad has several chemical manufacturing units
Considered as Asia’s largest industrial estate, Vapi and Valsad districts are home to many chemical manufacturing units. About 100 units consume methanol in Vapi, Sarigam, Umargam, Gundlav in the district. Out of which 12 major units are included. According to the information received from the system, about 10 units consume an average of 1 lakh lakh liters of methanol every month. Which is a total of 10 lakh litres. While the remaining 90 units consume five thousand liters. Which is a total of 4.50 lakh litres.
Methanol users of the administration watch over 100 units
Both have got a total of 100 units, 15 lakh liters of methanol are being consumed every month. Officials said that the factories producing methanol in Valsad district are less but the companies consuming it are more. The companies consuming methanol have been urged to keep an account of the quantity of methanol. Valsad district police, anti-narcotics department and administration are keeping a watch on 100 units of methanol users after the crackdown in Botad.
Industrialists also presented information in the meeting
In a meeting held at Surat, the industrialists said that chemicals including methanol are used in Valsad district under the guidance of the Narcotics Department. According to the Prohibition Act, the Narcotics Department remains on alert. Businesses are keeping their data regularly. So the possibility of incidents like Botad Barwala happening in Valsad district is negligible.
Keep data user cert.regular in writing
In the meeting held at Surat, Valsad district police chief Dr. Rajdipsinh Jhala, Tanna of the district anti-narcotics department and other relevant officials were present. Debt user certificate regarding consumption of chemicals to units. Suggestions were made to keep the regular in writing. Apart from this, the drivers of the vehicles carrying chemicals were also asked to keep complete information. All companies have to keep the chemical usage register updated.
Action in case of error in quantity information
The district consists of more than 100 units consuming methanol. Managers of units and pumps selling and storing methanol have been instructed to keep the quantity information. Police will do surprise checking anytime and action will be taken if any violation is found. Police has now come into alert mode to stop misuse of methanol.
GPS required in chemical tankers
