NEW DELHI: Jailed journalist Siddique Kappan, who said he served as the secretary of the Delhi chapter of Kerala Union of Working Journalists, refuted claims that he had links with PFI and SIMI. He maintained that he was going to Hathras on a journalistic assignment to cover the rape-cum-murder case.
It was alleged by the probe agency that Kappan had received Rs 45,000 in his account from PFI. Refuting the allegation, Kappan said he had deposited Rs 25,000 in his account and his friends had returned another Rs 20,000 and that the entire amount was meant “for constructing a house”, which was stalled because of the pandemic.
Even if one assumes for the sake of argument that the money was in fact received from PFI, “it is pertinent to note that PFI is not a terrorist organisation”, he said.
