
NASHIK: The Nashik police arrested a 35-year-old burglar from Bhivandi in Thane district and recovered from him 38 stolen cellphones worth Rs 4.22 lakh.
The police also seized a four-wheeler the burglar used for committing the theft in Nashik.
A complaint about house-breaking theft was registered with the Panchavati police on August 10. An unidentified person had broke open a closed shop of cellphones in the Panchavati Karanja area and had stolen various cellphones.
Taking serious note of the burglary, DCP (Crime) Sanjay Barkund and ACP Vasant More had instructed the crime department officials and personnel about detecting the crime.
Crime branch Unit 1 personnel visited the incident spot and after closely observing the CCTV footage of the burglary they deduced that the burglar was a seasoned criminal. Further investigation into the case revealed that he was a resident of Bhivandi in Thane district.
The police accordingly sent a team to Bhivandi after which the suspect Javed Ali Taki Khan was detained. On grilling him, he confessed to have committed the burglary along with four others. The police after recovering 38 cellphones of the 41 that were stolen, also seized a hatchback used for the crime.
The case is being investigated further by the police.
