JAMMU: A Pakistani terrorist captured along the Line of Control (LoC) in Naushera sector of J&K’s Rajouri district has claimed that he was given 30,000 Pakistani rupees by a colonel of the “Pakistan intelligence” to attack an Indian Army post on August 21, said Brigade Commander Brigadier Kapil Rana on Wednesday.
Addressing a press briefing in Rajouri, Brig Rana told reporters that the twin infiltration bids on August 21 and 22 in Jhangar and Laam areas resulted in the killing of two armed terrorists and the arrest of a PoK-based terrorist who is presently hospitalised.
“The first (infiltration) attempt was made on August 21 when alert jawans deployed in Jhangar spotted the movement of two-three terrorists from across the LoC in the early hours. One terrorist came close to the Indian post and was trying to cut the fence when he was challenged by our troops. While trying to flee, he was shot and injured,” he said.
The wounded terrorist was captured alive and provided with immediate medical aid and lifesaving surgery. Two other terrorists accompanying him managed to escape under the dense forest cover, said Brig Rana. “The captured terrorist identified himself as Tabarak Hussain, a resident of Sabzkot village of Koti in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. On further questioning, he revealed their plan to attack the Indian Army post on the orders of one Col Yunus Chaudhry who had paid him 30,000 Pakistani rupees. Hussain and his associates had also conducted a few recces of the Indian Army post before attempting to infiltrate,” said Brig Rana.
Hussain, who is currently hospitalised, has told officials that he was earlier captured by the Army from the same sector in 2016 along with his brother Haroon Ali, and repatriated on humanitarian grounds in November 2017.
Brig Rana said: “On the night of August 22-23, another group of two-three terrorists tried to infiltrate through the Laam area in Naushera. Alert troops manning the LoC monitored the movement of the terrorists, who moved ahead into our minefields. A series of mines got activated and the duo was killed on the spot.” Another terrorist accompanying them possibly got injured and is hiding in the area or may have fled back using the dense foliage and inclement weather to his advantage, the Brigadier added.
“On August 23 morning, we flew a quadcopter over the area and bodies of the two dead terrorists were observed,” said Brig Rana. “Following this, a search operation was launched and the bodies of both terrorists were recovered along with an AK-56, three magazines and a large quantity of ammunition. As the area is heavily-mined, the operation is being carried out carefully and is still in progress. We are expecting to make more recoveries,” he added.
“This is the direct pointer towards our adversary across our western borders and the sinister attempt to disrupt peace in Rajouri and Jammu regions,” said Brig Rana, with Rajouri SSP Mohammad Aslam by his side. Security forces manning the LoC are fully alert to thwart any attempt to disrupt peace in the Jammu region, Brig Rana added.
