ICDS Department celebrated Nutrition Month in Rajkot

The Union Health Department has declared the month of September as Nutrition Month under which various programs are being conducted across the country to combat malnutrition. At that time, Nutrition Month was celebrated at Rajkot by the ICDS department under which a total of 1643 children were identified as severely underweight and underweight children.

‘Poshanmah’ is celebrated every year by the Government of India as part of ensuring nutrition security and celebrating sensitive approaches like ‘Kuposhan Se Suposhan Ki Aur’. Urban ICDS of Rajkot Metropolitan Municipality as per the instructions and guidance of Women and Child Development Department Central Government and State Government. Very low birth weight children and underweight children are identified by the department. Which is a total of 1643 children.

Stunted growth, poor body weight in children due to nutritional deficiency were discussed with the beneficiaries of Anganwadis. In which every child beneficiary was given an understanding of how to provide affordable food according to their age. Parents were informed by comparing the weight of extremely underweight and normal children. Also explained about food given to normal children at home and food given to severely malnourished or moderately malnourished children.

Recipes that can be made at home from the government’s take home ration ‘Balshakti’ ata, how much vegetables and fruits to give children in their diet, were given instructions.
