The demand for ghee will increase drastically during the Navratri festival of worshiping Jagat Janani. Before that, Baroda Dairy has drastically increased the price of ghee by 10 percent. Of course, the price of Baroda Dairy’s ghee in the open market is still lower than that of private dairies, and the possibility of a further price hike in the near future cannot be ruled out.

Navratri will start in earnest from next Monday. Along with this, there will be a drastic increase in the demand of ghee. Accordingly, Baroda Dairy authorities have increased the price of 1 liter of ghee made from cow’s milk by Rs.40 in a phased manner in the last 17 days. Whereas, the price of ghee made from buffalo milk has increased by Rs.60 per liter. The authorities added that among the underlying reasons Baroda Dairy was forced to increase the price of ghee from Rs.410 to Rs.425 for the butter produced from Surat’s Sumul Dairy.

Under normal circumstances, an average of 40 to 80 tonnes of butter is produced from Sumul Dairy every month. The demand reaches up to 100 tonnes during festivals. If the supply of ghee falls short of the demand in the coming days, the possibility of a further increase in the price of ghee cannot be ruled out. It is worth mentioning that on 6th September, Baroda Dairy increased the price of 500 ml of Surabhi Ghee from Rs.260 to Rs.270. Whereas, the price of 500 ml of ghee made from cow’s milk was increased from Rs.270 to Rs.280. The price has been increased again on 21st.
