  • Rohit gets angry at Dinesh Karthik in the field
  • Karthik’s poor approach to taking DRS: Uthappa

Rohit Sharma took the right approach with Dinesh Karthik in the first T20 in Mohali and was right to be angry, feels recently retired cricketer Robin Uthappa. Uthappa feels that Karthik cannot relax when he knows the batsman is out and has to bowl.

India’s loss in the first T20

Team India suffered a disappointing four-wicket defeat in the first match of the three-match T20 series against Australia in Mohali on Tuesday. Batting first, India made a strong score of 208 runs in 20 overs, but the poor performance of the Indian fast bowlers led to the defeat of the team. Meanwhile, there was an occasion when captain Rohit Sharma explained wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik in a different way.

Rohit Sharma gets angry with Dinesh Karthik

India did little damage to Australia’s run chase in the middle overs when Akshar Patel and Umesh Yadav took 4 wickets in 10 to 14 overs. Apart from Cameron Green who looked dangerous, Jos Inglis, Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell were dismissed. Umesh dismissed Smith and Maxwell in the same over, but both times went against the umpire’s decision. In such a situation, Rohit Sharma was seen angry with Dinesh Karthik.

Robin Uthappa reacted

Robin Uthappa, who came in for commentary at this point, said that Karthik seems to be relaxed when the batsman is out, but it was a good thing to warn him from Rohit’s side. Uthappa said, “Sometimes, Dinesh goes a bit too relaxed. If he knows the batsman is out, he goes free, but what Rohit Sharma did was good, Rohit warned Karthik, and at least appealed to him. So said.”

Karthik flopped in the first T20

Karthik has been preferred over young wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant in the playing eleven of Team India. This was a difficult decision for the team management. However, in this match he came in at number 7 and got out after scoring 5 runs. His contribution as a wicketkeeper was also not appreciated, as he could not appeal lbw well and convince the captain.
