These areas are currently supplied about 400 million litres per day (MLD). For the first time, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) officials have been able to simulate as to how much more infrastructure would be required by them to serve these areas.
AMC plans to enhance the water treatment and processing capacity of Jaspur water treatment plant to supply water to these new west zone areas.
“We estimate that nearly 34 lakh will live in areas like Ghatlodia, Gota, Thaltej, Bodakdev, Vejalpur, Jodhpur, Sarkhej, Maktampura, Ambli and Shilaj in New West Zone by 2030,” says a senior AMC official.
In 2030, the water requirement in these areas will be 620.12MLD, while by 2045, the daily water requirement will increase to 1,022.77MLD. AMC officials say that keeping in view the future requirement, construction work is underway for capacity enhancement of Jaspur Water Treatment Plant from 400MLD to 600MLD.
A Rs 91 crore project for laying a new main water trunk line to the areas adjacent to the affordable housing zone along the western parts of SP Ring Road and SG Highway in the city is currently on.
A new water trunk line will be laid from Kotarpur to Motera’s Pramukh Swami Road.
A 2,200mm diameter trunk line is laid from Jaspur water treatment plant to the 30 lakh litres capacity Vaishnodevi Devi overhead tank.
There will be three waterlines that will emerge from this overhead tank.
