According to the policy, Auda will supply 22,500 litres per household per month, without extra charge. Such consumers, however, will have to pay the basic annual water fee that comes with the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) property tax bill.
If a household’s consumption is between 22,500 litres and 30,000 litres a month, the owner will pay a maximum of Rs 75, at the rate of Rs 10 per 1,000 additional litres. For monthly consumption between 30,001 litres and 40,000 litres, Auda will Rs 20 per 1,000 litres. Similarly, the charge will be Rs 50 per thousand litres for consumption exceeding 60,001 litres. A copy of this policy is with TOI.
“For commercial property, depending on type, Auda will charge between Rs 25 and Rs 40 per thousand litres of water consumed. The policy has further clarified that Rs 15 per will be charged per 1,000 litres from government or semi-government organizations such as government-aided schools, government colleges, universities, institutions and for religious places,” said a senior Auda official.
Five years ago, Auda sanctioned Rs 77.53 crore for the 24×7 metered water supply project for the Bopal-Ghuma municipality, Shela and its adjoining areas, mostly in TP Schemes 1, 2 and 3. Auda was to ensure metered household connections, mechanical, and electric instrumentation, and a central supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) management system. The project was inaugurated on July 27 this year. Auda had already identified an agency for operation and maintenance of its water supply in Bopal and Ghuma municipalities. This agency will prepare bills and collect user charges for a period of five years.
“AMC will charge an annual water fee from Bopal-Ghuma residents as part of the property tax bill as these areas are now under the AMC. Auda will charge a monthly metered water usage charge as part of the 24×7 metered water supply project,” said the senior Auda official.
