From Stranger Things fan art flooding our social media feeds to this alternate universe themed goodies and props making their way to our homes on festive occasions, Kolkata has taken this love for the kids from Hawkins to an all-new level. “I can’t believe it is happening in Kolkata. I hope it doesn’t rain in the evening; I don’t want to miss the laser light show. It starts around 5 pm,” says Aaditri Roy, a resident of Tollygunge.
“Every year we try to think of a theme that is a little different and offbeat. Since Kali pujo reminds us of something supernatural, we thought the Stranger Things theme would be the right one to create a spooky atmosphere. The pandal will stay till October 26th and the laser show will start in the evening around 6:30,” says Jeet Roy, Secretary of Russa Shakti Sevak Sangh, which has created this pandal.
What can the Stranger Things fans expect to see at the pandal?
· The fictional town of Hawkins, recreated in a matter of 12-15 days. The pandal’s entrance has the famous tree trunk portal with the giant humanoid Demogorgon on one side to welcome you to the Upside-Down supernatural world of Hawkins.
· Goddess Kali has a new address- The pandal has recreated the infamous Creel House where the goddess is seated.
· Beware of the Mind Flayer. He is at the pandal and might try to possess you.
