Patna remains hotspot of dengue | Patna News

PATNA: The sudden spurt in vector-borne dengue has baffled residents, civic body and health officials in the state. Bihar registered 198 dengue cases on Tuesday, taking the tally up to 3,568 in the state this year so far.

With 169 fresh cases registered in the last 24 hours, the dengue infection count in Patna has gone up to 2,756 since January. So far, two persons have reportedly died due to the dengue illness this year. Total fatality stood at three, including one in Nalanda. After Patna, Munger and Nawada reported 13 cases each, nine each in Gaya, Gopalganj and Nalanda, six in Siwan, five in Rohtas and four in Vaishali.
According to Patna civil surgeon Dr Kamal Kishore Roy, 83 persons were diagnosed with the virus in Azimabad circle, closely followed by 38 in Bankipur circle, 20 in Kankarbagh circle, 11 in Patliputra circle, seven in Patna City circle, five in New Capital circle, two in Patna Sadar and one each in Fatuha, Khusrupur, Punpun and Sampatchak.
One-third of the confirmed cases of dengue in the district have been reported from Azimabad circle. According to sources, over 780 cases are alone from this circle while the most affected areas fall between Mahendru and Gai Ghat. The officials of district health department said the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has been instructed to conduct anti-mosquito drive, including fumigation and spraying of malathion technical, temephos and larvicide in hotspot areas and other parts of the city.
The officials of health department said around 51 dengue patients are currently undergoing treatment at government health facilities in Patna and 79 across the state.
With the rise in cases of dengue, the demand for platelets has also increased and the blood banks are sometimes finding it difficult to meet the requirement. Patna DM Chandrashekhar Singh on Tuesday formed 10 teams to monitor the supply and demand of platelets at blood banks to avoid blackmarketing.
“Each team comprises deputy collector and medical officer to keep a check on blood banks in Patna, so that the attendants get the platelets without any delay. The blood banks have also been asked to increase their manpower to meet the demand,” the DM told TOI.
