Top 5 things to know about the first ‘Made in India’ luxury EV Mercedes-Benz EQS580

Mercedes Benz India launched the first locally-assembled luxury electric vehicle in the country at a starting price of Rs 1.55 crore (all India ex-showroom). The EQS 580 will be the 14th ‘Made in India’ Mercedes-Benz model and this locally assembled model sits below the recently launched Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 S and is cheaper by Rs 90 lakh than the fully imported AMG version.
The Mercedes Benz EQS 580 joins the EQC and AMG EQS 53 electric vehicles in the company’s lineup in India. Here are the top 5 things that you need to know about the first ‘Made in India’ luxury EVs.
1. Design
Talking about the design of the luxury EV, the EQS 580 gets a more toned-down design compared to the EQS 53 AMG. At the front, it gets less aggressive facia with a blanked-out grille that features illuminated three-pointed stars. The car gets aerodynamically designed five-spoke 20-inch alloy wheels.

The S580 measures 5,126mm in length, and the EQS 580 4Matic is only slightly shorter than the S-Class but both have a near identical wheelbase of 3,210mm.
Mercedes Benz also said that they have achieved a coefficient of 0.20Cd – even lower than the EQS 53’s 0.23Cd.
2. Interior and Features
Moving on to the interior, the main highlight here is the ‘Hyperscreen’ that it comes with. The Mercedes Benz EQS 580 gets a 56-inch MBUX Hyperscreen which assimilation of three screens, including a passenger display, central infotainment, and driver display. The driver and front passenger get 12.3-inch screens each, while the infotainment system in the centre is 17.7-inch. There are 12 actuators to give haptic feedback to the users and the Hyperscreen also gets pre-installed games.
The EQS 580 gets other features such as 3D maps, a heads-up display, a massage function for the front seats, a Burmester 3D sound system, air filtration, and an MBUX tablet for the rear seat passengers.
3. Powertrain
The Mercedes Benz EQS 580 gets two electric motors, one on each axle, and together, the motors make a combined power of 523hp and 855Nm. That makes it 238hp and 165Nm lower than the EQS 53 AMG.
Mercedes claims that the EQS 589 can sprint from 0-100 in just 4.3-seconds and the car has a limited top speed of 210kph.
4. Battery and Range
The two electric motors in the EQS 580 are powered by a 107.8kWh lithium-ion battery pack. This battery pack is compatible with 200kW fast charging and Mercedes claims that the EV can get 300 km of range in 15 minutes if a 200 kWh DC charger is used the company also said that this luxury electric car can be charged from 10 to 80 per cent in 31 minutes.

The car claims a range of up to 677 km (WLTP)| 857 km (ARAI-certified) which also makes it the longest range EV in the country.
5. Safety, Pricing and Rivals
Talking about the safety features, the EQS 580 boasts a EURO NCAP safety rating of 5 stars and comes equipped with nine airbags. Mercedes states that a favourable location has been chosen for the installation of the battery, in a crash-protected area in the underbody.
The EV gets rear-axle steering with 10° steering angle adjustment, HEPA Filter, Dynamic Select, and Predictive Route Planning, among other features.
The prices for the electric luxury sedan start from Rs 1.55 crore (ex-showroom). In terms of pricing, the EQS 580 competes with Audi e-Tron and Porsche Taycan.
