500 volunteers involved in Karuna Abhiyan to save bird in Uttarayan vnd – News18 Gujarati

Nidhi Dave, Vadodara: Two to three youths have lost their lives due to kite strings. On the other hand, many birds lose their lives every year due to kite strings. Camps are organized every year for grooming, treatment and rescue of birds by the forest department. This year also around 45 camps have been organized. About 500 volunteers will perform duty from 10th to 23rd. A team of 15 doctors will be working for 3 days of Uttarayana.

Last year 1300 birds were rescued

As many as 10 students from Zoology department will also play a supporting role in the camp. Last year 1300 birds were rescued. A new operation theater has also been set up by the Forest Department at the Karelibagh Wildlife Protection Centre.

Besides the X-ray machine installed last year, the NGO has also received an advanced operation support machine. The forest department is of the opinion that chickpeas should not be fed to birds in Uttarayana.

According to the forest department, one week before Uttarayan, the birds should stop feeding chickpeas.

When a vehicle comes, the birds tend to take flight, causing injuries due to entanglement in the wires.

Today the fire brigade rescued the pigeon. On Dandiya Bazar-Pratap Road, a pigeon was trapped in a kite string and rescued by the fire brigade. Efforts will be made to kill fewer birds this year. Birds are rescued every year under Karuna Abhiyan.
