Aiming to reduce the dropout ratio of government schools, AMC School Board has prepared an action plan

Ahmedabad: In the city, schools run by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation School Board are working to provide excellent education to poor and middle class children. However, with municipal schools providing education only up to class 8, there are some students who drop out for some reason. Efforts have been made by the Ahmedabad Municipal School Board to divert such students back to school. An action plan has also been prepared by the school board for this.

Students drop out for many reasons

More than 18 thousand children are studying in class 8 in more than 350 municipal schools in Ahmedabad. However, it has come to the attention of the system that some students drop out after class 8 due to some reason. One of the reasons has also been noticed that the students leave their education incomplete due to the lack of class-ninth class system in the municipal schools. Taking this into consideration, special arrangements have been made by the Ahmedabad Municipal School Board. For which now the Ahmedabad Municipal School Board has taken up the work to increase the new class. Also read: Cold war between the rulers and officials of Ahmedabad municipality?

At present the study is going on only up to class 8

A written representation has been submitted to the Chief Minister to approve the commencement of class IX in municipal schools from June 2023. At present, 18,712 poor and middle class students are studying in 350 schools owned by the Municipal School Board. In these schools only classes up to class VIII are being conducted at present.

Consideration of handing over the management of these schools to Government School Boards

Five schools owned by the Secondary School Education Committee once existed in the city namely Maninagar Municipal Gujarati Secondary School, Municipal Girls High School, Asarwa Municipal Gujarati Secondary School, Bapunagar Municipal Hindi School for classes nine and ten and Rakhiyal Municipal Urdu School with 35 in running classes from class nine to twelve. 1140 students are studying with the academic staff of the people. The Standing Committee meeting discussed about handing over the management of these schools to the Ahmedabad Municipal School Board and starting class IX in the municipal schools.

Waiting for government approval

According to the authorities of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation regarding this, if the state government gives permission to start new classes in municipal schools along with handing over the schools to the school board, all the facilities including the building are available with the municipal schools. If new classes are allowed in municipal schools, the current dropout ratio will definitely decrease. It is important that, if the government approves, from June 2023, class IX can be started in schools owned by the Ahmedabad Municipal School Board. So a written approval has been sought from the Chief Minister in this matter.
