‘Chinese pet’: Mahesh Jethmalani slams Jairam Ramesh over alleged China links | Latest News India | Times Of Ahmedabad

Days after targeting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, BJP MP and advocate Mahesh Jethmalani on Tuesday hit out at Jairam Ramesh, calling him a ‘Chinese pet’. Sharing an excerpt from Ramesh’s book, Jethmalani also alleged that the Congress leader had been lobbying for the banned Chinese telecom companies since 2005.

“As regards Jairam Ramesh being a Chinese pet, it’s very clear. I’ve shared a link in which Chinese are praising him and telling the Indian govt to pay heed to what he’s saying…As a concerned Indian, I’m worried he’s challenging India’s position on sensitive border issues,” the advocate said, speaking to news agency ANI.

“I’m concerned that for someone with such a background, if it was done in the spirit of enquiry as an MP, then there was nothing wrong. But you (Jairam Ramesh) seem to be taking an anti-India and pro-Chinese line…Are you speaking over genuine concern for India or motivated interest,” he asked.

In a tweet, earlier in the day, Jethmalani wrote that Jairam questioning Centre’s China stand “behoves him to disclose his Huawei links”.

Jethmalani’s remarks also come amid the row over senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh‘s comment on the2016 surgical strike.

Earlier on Monday, the Bharatiya Janata Party had slammed senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh for questioning the Indian Armed Forces over the 2016 surgical strike and alleged that he “echoes Pakistan’s narrative” on the Pulwama terror attack in which 40 CRPF personnel were killed in 2019.

During a press meet of the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Singh had said the Centre was yet to place a report on the 2016 surgical strike or the 2019 Pulwama terror attack before Parliament, adding that the government was spreading lies.

The Congress distanced itself from Singh’s comments saying the views expressed by him “are his own” and “do not reflect the position” of the party.
