Five dead in car-truck collision in Kerala | Latest News India | Times Of Ahmedabad

Five people were killed in a car-truck collision in Alappuzha district in Kerala on Monday morning, police said.

Police said that the car was at a high speed and lost control while passing a curve on national highway 66 and collided with the truck coming from the opposite direction.

All five were canteen workers at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Research Centre in Delhi and died on the spot after the accident, police said.

Police said the deceased people were of the 25-30 age group. According to the relatives of one of the deceased, the group was returning to Thiruvananthapuram after attending a friend’s marriage.

Police said the truck was en route to Alappuzha from Andhra Pradesh and though the truck driver and his helper were taken into custody after the incident, they were released later.

The bodies of the victims were sent for post-mortem and will later be handed over to the relatives, police said.

According to recent data released by the Kerala police, 16,678 lives were lost on roads in the last four years (2018-2022) in Kerala. Over 1.50 lakh accident cases were registered and over 1.75 people sustained injuries.
