VIDEO SOURCE: DD NEWS For the first time ever, the iconic 21-gun salute accorded to the President prior to the beginning of the parade was given by indigenous field guns. The Gunners of 8711 Field Battery present the 21-gun salute by indigenously made 105 mm Indian Field Guns, replacing the British era 25-pounder guns that were traditionally used. The move is in line with the Modi government’s ‘Make in India’ push and a step towards ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’. It is also an attempt by the government to step away from the vestiges of the colonial era.
