Kutch: 11-year cold record broken in Gujarat's Kashmir, bone-chilling cold

Dhairya Gajara, Kutch: ColdAmidst the forecast of Kutch, cold weather has increased with cold winds for the past few days. Meanwhile, a record breaking temperature was recorded in Nalia, a cold station in Gujarat’s Kashmir, amid the effects of a cold wave this morning. The minimum temperature in Nalia today on Thursday touched 2 degree Celsius, which is the lowest recorded minimum temperature in the last 11 years.

Naliya is called the Kashmir of Gujarat as it usually records single digit temperatures during winters. Due to the sandy soil and lack of trees here, the temperature drops very quickly. Due to the Western Disturbance, cold winds from North India reach Kutch directly and affect Nalia the most. Meanwhile, Naliya recorded the lowest temperature in the last 11 years amid the cold wave, which was recorded eight degrees below the potential on Thursday.

Naliya recorded a minimum temperature of 2 degrees today which is the lowest not only for this season but for the last 11 years. Earlier in the year 2011, the temperature was recorded at 2 degrees. So today’s temperature was eight degrees below normal, showing signs of cold wave. Yesterday, the maximum temperature recorded throughout the day was also 25 degrees.

The temperature in other places of Kutch was also very low today. The temperature at district headquarters Bhuj also dipped into single digits at 9 degrees Celsius. So yesterday also the maximum temperature was recorded throughout the day at 24.4 degrees. The minimum temperature of Kandla also dropped from 14 degrees to 12 degrees, against which the maximum temperature was recorded at 27.8 degrees.

It is worth mentioning that the temperature of Nalia is generally the lowest in the whole of Gujarat. So in this deadly cold, people stop coming out of their houses in the evening and early morning.
