Iran Foundation rewards man who stabbed Salman Rushdie; 'Brave action made Muslims happy' | Times Of Ahmedabad

An Iranian foundation has rewarded and praised the man who attacked novelist Salman Rushdie. The Foundation to Implement Imam Khomeini’s Fatwas honoured the attacker for what it called ‘brave action’ and gave 1000 square metres of agricultural land. The 24-year-old Shi’ite American Muslim man attacked Rushdie in New York in August last year. The novelist Rushdie lost an eye and use of one hand following the assault. The attack came 33 years after former Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini issued a fatwa against Rushdie, calling on Muslims to assassinate him over his book ‘The Satanic Verses’.
