Toofan’s release came just a day after Amritpal Singh and his supporters went on a rampage and stormed into a police complex brandishing swords and guns. Toofan was arrested in a kidnapping and assault case and protesters were demanding his release, claiming that the charges against him were false. Toofan’s quick release after the protests has raised serious questions over the law and order situation in Punjab.
