Russia tears into Germany over tanks supplied to Ukraine as Olaf Scholz’s government faces massive protests for arming Kyiv against Moscow. Russia has warned “ungrateful” Berlin against an “extremely dangerous” decision that “will bring the conflict to a higher level of escalation.” On January 25, the German government announced that it would supply Ukraine with 14 Leopard 2 tanks and also permit the re-export of such tanks from other countries. Then on February 7, the German government approved supplies of 178 Leopard 1A5 battle tanks from the country’s industrial reserves to embattled Ukraine. The German tanks are expected to reach Ukraine in the last week of March. The tanks’ supply to Ukraine has triggered massive protests across Germany.
