A major controversy has erupted over the remarks of Pakistan’s ambassador to the United Nations, Munir Akram. Speaking about the women’s rights under the Taliban regime in Afghanistan, Munir Akram said that restricting women in homes was a part of the Pashtun culture. This angered the Afghanistan envoy who gave a sharp rebuttal to his Pakistani counterpart at the meeting. He said that Taliban culture and Pashtun culture was very different.
