Turkey earthquake: Turkish cat rescued from debris, netizens says ‘so sweet’ | World News | Times Of Ahmedabad

The death toll in the 7.8 magnitude earthquake which ravaged Turkey and Syria has crossed 2,000 and the figures are expected to rise further. The rescue and search operation teams are leaving no stone unturned to evacuate survivors from the rubble.

However, an image from earthquake zone Turkey has won hearts online with netizens calling it a symbol of humanity. The image shared by a Twitter user named Abier Khatib shows a rescue team personnel carrying a Turkish cat which was rescued from the debris of a building.

The white-furred feline clings to the rescue team personnel as it is ferried out of the mound of debris. A Twitter user commented,”So sweet rescuing the kitty- awwwww. Tender moment in the mist of tragedy”.

Global aid continues to pour in from all corners of the world as Turkey and Syria battle the devastating earthquake. United Nations secretary general Antonio Guterres in a statement said,”United Nations staff is on the ground in Turkey and Syria to assess the need and provide assistance following a huge earthquake on Monday”.

“We count on the international community to help the thousands of families hit by this disaster, many of whom were already in dire need of humanitarian aid in areas where access is a challenge,” Guterres added.

US President Joe Biden extended his condolences to those affected by the quake and offered to send help to Turkey if needed.

“I am deeply saddened by the loss of life and devastation caused by the earthquake in Turkiye and Syria,” Biden tweeted, referring to Turkey by its preferred official name.
