Death and destruction is visible everywhere in Turkey and Syria which were hit by three earthquakes on Monday. The death toll due to the tremblors have crossed 1,900 and the figures could mount further. Several countries including India are sending aid to assist in relief and rescue operations.

Social media is flooded with heartbreaking videos and images from Turkey and Syria. Ahmer Khan, a multimedia journalist, tweeted a video of a massive fire which broke out in a building in Turkey. LIVE coverage

JournoTurk, a local news outlet, shared a video of a building collapsing due to the earthquake.

“this is scary!!! pray for Turkey”, Malik Ofori, an influencer too tweeted a video of a building collapse.

Anton Gerashenko, whose Twitter handle described him as the advisor to the minister of internal affairs in Ukraine, tweeted a video of a building being reduced to a rubble.

The first earthquake which ripped through central Turkey and northwest Syria, measured 7.8 on the Richter scale. Reuters reporters witnessed rescue workers searching through debris to evacuate people from the rubble. Occasionally they raised their hands and called for quiet, listening for sounds of life.

The destruction in Syria was no lesser than the one in Turkey. The country has already been ravaged by a decade-long civil war.

Syrian state television showed footage of rescue teams searching for survivors in heavy rain and sleet. President Bashar al-Assad held an emergency cabinet meeting to review the damage and discuss the next steps, his office said.
