China raised its defence budget by 7.2% in 2023, compared with 7.1% in 2022. Beijing will spend $225 billion on defence this year, according to a report by the Ministry of Finance published on the opening day of the annual session of Parliament. Chinese Premier Li Keqiang warned of growing “external” threats to Beijing’s rise. Li said military operations, capacity building, and combat preparedness should be “well-coordinated in fulfilling major tasks.” Watch this video to know more.
