3 More Held In Epfo Scam, 5 Arrests So Far | Mumbai News


Mumbai: The Cuffe Parade police have arrested three more members of a gang of cyberfraudsters that had allegedly extorted Rs 4.4 crore from a South Bombay-based elderly couple after impersonating as EPFO representatives last month.
The accused have been identified as Gautam Verma, Rehmatullah Khanand Akhtar Hussain from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh. The cops had earlier arrested Basant Dilliram Sharma (58) alias Sanjaykumar Purchand Upreti and Hemant Sharma(26) and had frozen Basant’s bank account containing Rs 28 lakh of the siphoned money.Verma told the cops that on Khan’s behest he allowed him to transfer Rs 26 lakh to his bank account for which he got Rs 2.6 lakh commission. Khan and Hussain were arrested from a guesthouse in Chandni Chowk, Delhi with 43 debit cards, seven cellphones and a laptop. — Ahmed Ali

Bombay HC grants interim relief from arrest to wrestling teacher in Pocso case
Bombay high court grants interim protection to wrestling teacher accused of sexual assault and harassment. The FIR was filed under the Pocso Act by a senior teacher on behalf of Class 9 students. The accused teacher allegedly engaged in inappropriate physical contact during wrestling lessons. The teacher’s pre-arrest bail plea was rejected by the sessions court. The high court ordered a notice to be issued to the complainant and directed the teacher to cooperate with the investigation. The matter will be heard again on November 29.
