5 techies held for data theft from Chennai company


BENGALURU: Three techies from Bengaluru and two from Chennai have been arrested over an alleged hacking operation that saw foreign client data of a Chennai software firm stolen through a conference call last month.
Edison Ramesh and Ramkumar are from Chennai, and Kavya Vasanth Krishnan, Ravitha Devasenapathy and S Karuppaiah from Bengaluru. They were allegedly involved in the three-hour conference call from Chennai that started around 1am on October 9.
The hi-tech stealth operation sent the firm, its founder and others into a tizzy as calls from their customers from foreign countries started pouring in.The customers said they were unable to access the banking software provided by the firm. Most of the affected clients were from Australia. “The company received a call from a customer saying their users are not able to access the comprehensive credit reporting software app,” read the complaint filed by the firm.
