Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and Worli MLA Aaditya Thackeray has reminded the state government that 11 of the 24 civic wards in Mumbai are without full-time assistant commissionerswho function as ward officers. Alleging that the government was anti-Mumbai, he sought to know the reason for the delay in their appointment.
“Reminder: 11 of 24 Municipal Wards in Mumbai are without full time Assistant Commissioners.A total of 16 Asst Commissioners await postings! Why the delay? It’s been a year that Mumbai has faced a purposeful fall in administration under the direct control of Khoke Sarkar,” he posted on X on Sunday.
Two years after the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) conducted exams in October 2021 to appoint 16 assistant commissioners for the BMC, the recruitment process is incomplete and plagued by litigation. The MPSC had declared the results in March 2022 and issued a list of candidates eligible for the interviews. But, the process was delayed. Eventually, the interviews were conducted this August and the candidates’ merit list declared in September. Meanwhile, some candidates who were excluded from the interview process, moved the court. Interviews were conducted for these candidates, too. “The recommendation list is now stuck in litigation. The MPSC and the BMC are responsible for this situation,” said an aspirant.

‘Khichdi scam’: Mumbai police issue summons to Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders Amol Kirtikar, Suraj Chavan
The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has summoned Amol Kirtikar and Suraj Chavan for further investigation into the alleged financial irregularities in the ‘khichdi for migrant labourers’ scam. Amol Kirtikar, son of Shiv Sena MP Gajanan Kirtikar, had previously been questioned by the EOW in September. The case involves favoritism in awarding contracts for khichdi distribution during the pandemic. On September 1, the EOW booked several individuals for charges including cheating, breach of trust, and criminal conspiracy.
