Nine years after his conviction in a corruption caseleading to his instant disqualification as Rajya Sabha member, former AIADMK minister and ex-DMK MP TM Selvaganapathy was acquitted of all charges by the Madras high court on Tuesday. Owing to this reprieve, now he is free to contest election and hold public office.
“After perusing the evidence, this court finds that the charge of misconduct of the public servants with corrupt intention or illegal means or abuse of position against the former minister, then rural development secretary JT Acharyalu IAS (deceased), then director of rural development M Sathyamurthy IAS and others is not made out,” said Justice G Jayachandran.
