Day after birthday, medical student found killed in hostel basement | India News


KANPUR: A 24-year-old student at a private medical college in Bithoor, Kanpur, was found murdered in the basement of the hostel on Sunday morning. He was last spotted in CCTV footage of the hostel late Saturday when he held celebrations of his birthday, a day late.
The victim, Sahil Saraswat, belonged to Mathura and was pursuing MBBS(second year) from Rama Medical College, police said.Sahil lived in MBBS Old Boys Hostel with his roommate, who is a resident ofBihar and a third year student of MBBS . Police were questioning him and other hostel inmates.
At 6.30am, a guard, Jai Singh, went to switch off the lights in the electric panel located in the basement of the hostel where he found Sahil’s blood-soaked body. The guard alerted the college authorities who informed the police. A forensic team reached the spot and collected evidence.
According to forensic experts, Sahil had sustained multiple injuries on his body and was probably hit by a heavy object. A broken liquor bottle and a cigarette box were also found in the basement.
Commissioner of police, RK Swarnkar, joint commissioner (law and order) Anand Prakash Tiwari, DCP (west) Vijay Dhul and assistant commissioner of police, Kalyanpur, Vikas Kumar Pandey supervised the investigation.
