Ahmedabad: The Gujarat high court ordered the authorities concerned to correct the name of a person in his postmortem report so the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) can issue a death certificatefor which his family has been waiting for over a year.
This case involves Sudhakaran Menon from Kerala, who lived alone in the Gorwa area of Vadodara for the last 15 years.In August last year, he was found dead in his house. His immediate relatives and members of his community sent his body for an autopsy to the department of forensic medicine and toxicology at the medical college attached to SSG Hospital.
After his last rites, Menon’s family members wanted his death certificate, which they did not get. This was because the postmortem report sent to the police mentioned his name as ‘Sudhakaran Krishna Nayar’. His certificates, including Aadhaar card, bore his name as ‘Sudhakaran Menon’. The VMC refused to issue a death certificate because of the discrepancy.
Menon’s brother approached the HC complaining that his family has been unable to carry out certain procedures in the absence of his death certificates.
He urged the HC to either direct the department of toxicology and the police to correct the name on the postmortem report or to direct the VMC to issue the death certificate based on Menon’s Aadhaar card.
After hearing the case, Justice V D Nanavati ordered the change of name in the postmortem report and directed the civic body to issue the death certificate in a month’s time.

Helpless mom saw son tossed in air and falling to his death
An SUV driven by Sarthak Singh, an LLB student, and owned by Anshul Verma, a jeweler, was involved in a tragic incident where it hit and killed a 9-year-old boy in Lucknow. The incident occurred on the G20 road near Janeshwar Mishra Park. The two accused were arrested based on CCTV footage. The accused were driving at a speed of 150 km/hour and were challenging each other to reach that speed. The victim, Namish, was a class III student who was practicing skating under the supervision of his coach when the incident occurred.
