Ahmedabad: To ensure that the teachers perform their answersheet assessment duties, Gujarat University administration has issued a circular recently warning teachers that if they remain absent from this duty, the university will have to inform the department of higher education and a strict action may be taken against them.
The university faces a problem of teachers’ absenteeism from answersheet assessment duty almost every year which resultsin a delay in announcement of results.Sources said that the university has been issuing warnings to teachers every year, but the teachers take it for granted thinking that the university administration will be lenient towards them.
Under the newly implemented Gujarat Public Universities Act 2023, the department of higher education has more authority over the state’s public universities. Taking this into account, now the university has threatened that as the university administration has to send details of answersheet assessment assignments to the department, the department may take strict action against absentee teachers.
The circular asks colleges affiliated to the university to mandatory assign answersheet assessment to all teachers. If the college principals don’t assign this duty or if a teacher doesn’t report for the duty, the university will have to inform the department about it.
Sources said that after the implementation of the new rule, the university has washed its hands of its responsibility of ensuring that the teachers perform their answersheet assessment duty and passed it on to the department of higher education.
