NEW DELHI: As the UN observed International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, India called upon all parties to act with utmost responsibility in dealing with the Gaza humanitarian crisis and pledged more aid for Palestine, while also recalling that the ongoing conflict was triggered by the October 7 Hamas terror strikes that deserved unequivocal condemnation.
India’s permanent representative to UN Ruchira Kamboj said there can be no justification for terrorism and hostage taking, while underlining the universal obligation to observe international humanitarian law. “In addressing this humanitarian crisis, it is necessary for all parties to display the utmost responsibility. In this, we welcome all efforts by the international community that would lead to a de-escalation and delivery of humanitarian assistance to the people of Palestine. The humanitarian pauses is a welcome step to ensure timely and continuous delivery of humanitarian aid,” she said at a UNGA meeting on the Palestine question and the situation in the Middle East.
She underlined that India urges the parties to work towards creating conditions necessary for peace and the restarting of direct negotiations. “India has always supported a negotiated two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine issue leading to the establishment of a sovereign, independent and viable State of Palestine living within secure and recognised borders, side-by-side in peace with Israel.”
