BMC: Allow people access to Goregaon Sports Club ground | Mumbai News

MUMBAI: Following complaints that citizens are denied access to Goregaon Sports Club ground, the BMC on Friday pointed out that it is a recreation ground and directed the club authorities to allow entry to the general public.
The P-North ward office, in its letter to the Goregaon Sports Club and Bangur Nagar police station, said that Nagesh Aptea Shiv Sena office-bearer from Malad, has complained that the ground adjoining the club is not open to citizens.The letter pointed out that the BMC has given permission to the club to carry out development of the recreation ground on the condition that it be kept open for the general public from sunrise to sunset.
The ward office directed the club to provide a facility for entry and exit of the general public and report the action taken in this regard within three days. When contacted, the club secretary, Sanjay Maloo, said the ground is open to the public, as per the BMC conditions. He said people were denied access only during monsoon as the place was under maintenance.
Apte, however, claimed th-at bouncers are posted at the gate who stop and even threaten people trying to enter the ground. “The club, whose membership fee is Rs 17-18 lakh, conducts turf matches on the ground,” he alleged.
