Cops Must Attend Court In Uniform: Hc | Ahmedabad News

Ahmedabad: Justice J C Doshi of the Gujarat high court on Friday pulled up police officers for turning up in the courtroom in civil dress and warned the cops not to enter his court without uniform.
During a hearing of an application seeking cancellation of anticipatory bail in connection with an allegation of fraud in a property transaction, the judge quipped, “The Civil Procedure Code is to be shelved in this country.”
Justice Doshi criticized the sluggish pace of investigation, as he did not find any progress in the probe after the case was transferred to the CID (Crime). He remarked, “Does it have any other timeline to follow? Is there a separate Criminal Procedure Code for CID?” During this proceeding, he drew a government lawyer’s attention to a cop present in the court in civil dress. He said, “Do your police officers have any problem in wearing the khaki uniform?”
The judge continued, “From the next year (January 1, 2024), I will not allow anybody in my court without uniform even if he is the topmost police officer of the country. Am I required to issue instructions to each of them individually? Why cannot you pass this message to the home department? Or should I pass an order on the judicial side? This is for the purpose of investigation, and not for their appearance in court. This is the last warning or caution. I will start writing from the 1st (of January), and they will start losing their jobs.”
