Denied sabji, fruit seller killed woman eatery owner: Bhubaneswar police | India News

BHUBANESWAR: Police on Friday arrested a fruit seller for allegedly stabbing to death a small eatery owner Grade Behera (35) in Chandaka area near here last month.
MithunJena (34) had stabbed Sasmita multiple times on November 6 evening around 100 metres from her stall at Gothapatna market as she refused to serve him extra curry with vada, the police said.He even asked his friends to watch the TV channels showing the breaking news of the murder. Sasmita succumbed to her injuries in hospital the next day. Police were clueless about the killer as nobody had spotted the crime being committed as it was dark.
“It was a blind case for us when we started the investigation. While being rushed to hospital, the injured woman too could not identify the attacker. Our special squad was assigned to assist Chandaka police in the murder investigation. After questioning several people, we got clues about Mithun, who confessed to committing the murder,” commissioner of police Saumendra Priyadarsi said.
DCP Prateek Singh said Jena, who owns a fruit shop about 1 km away from Sasmita’s stall, visited her shop on November 5 to have breakfast. While eating vada, Jena asked for curry several times, which annoyed her.
“She refused to give him curry several times and asked him to pay more money. An altercation started between them. In a fit of rage, Jena left the shop and planned to take revenge for the insult,” Singh said.
Police sources said Jena had called up the owner of the room where Sasmita was running her shop on rent. Jena reportedly complained to him against her and told him he would teach her a lesson.
“Jena and some of his friends consumed liquor on November 5 evening. He told his friends he would kill Sasmita. Jena asked his friends to watch TV to get the news of her murder. He then purchased a knife and went to her shop. Finding her alone near her stall, he stabbed her multiple times,” another police officer said.
