The Rajya Sabha witnessed a fiery exchange between Trinamool Congress MP Derek O’Brien and Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, resulting in O’Brien’s suspension from the remainder of the winter session.
This action prompted an uproar amongst opposition members and resulted in the adjournment of the house for the day.
The December 14 confrontation escalated during a debate when O’Brien vehemently criticised the government on various issues, including the ongoing violence in Manipur and the lack of pre-legislative consultation for bills.
Dhankhar rebuked O’Brien for his ‘disorderly conduct’ and accused him of deviating from the debate’s subject, leading to a heated argument over the time allocated for O’Brien’s party.
