Former Mumbai mayor Datta Dalvi arrested for alleged offensive remarks against CM Eknath Shinde
Former Mumbai Mayor Datta Dalvi was arrested for using abusive language and making objectionable remarks against CM Eknath Shinde. Dalvi was charged under Sections 153A(1)(a), 153B(1)(b), 153A(1)(c), 294, 504, and 505 of the Indian Penal Code for promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language; imputations, assertions prejudicial to national integration; obscene acts and songs; and intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace. The incident occurred at a public meeting of Senas (UBT) Konkan office-bearers. Dalvi claimed that the language he used was from a movie and not abusive. Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut supported Dalvi, stating that the word used was not unparliamentary and criticized the government for arresting Dalvi. MLA Sunil Raut also expressed support and warned of street agitation if Dalvi is not released. Additionally, there were reports of Dalvi’s car being vandalized.
