Fire Breaks Out: 2 dead as blaze engulfs building near Girgaum Chowpatty

MUMBAI: Two persons died after a fire broke out in a building at Girgaum in south Mumbai around 9.30pm on Saturday.
The charred bodies of the two residents were found in a flat on the third floor of the ground-plus-three-storey Jethabhai Govindji Building located on Rangnekar Road. While one body was found in the bedroom, the other was in the bathroom.

The identities of the two deceased were not confirmed till the time of going to press as differing nuggets of information kept trickling in from authorities present at the site.
The two bodies were taken to the state government-run JJ Hospital at Byculla.
Guardian minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha and member of Parliament Arvind Sawant were among those who rushed to the spot.
The flames in the building kept rising around midnight. The fire had spread to the two uppermost floors of the structure. that is located near Metro Motors.
The fire-ravaged building stands beside an under-construction residential tower, said locals.
Initially, fire brigade personnel had claimed that some people could be trapped inside, awaiting rescue, but it was later confirmed that all residents had been evacuated.
The blaze was brought under control around 12.35am, said officials.
Fire brigade officials present at the spot said that they had declared it a ‘level 2’ fire.
Level 2 fire is a medium emergency call, while a level 1 fire is treated as a minor emergency call. Level 3 fire is a major emergency call, said fire officials.
