Implementation of National Policy leads to 76% decline in Maoist violence in 2022 | India News

NEW DELHI: Steadfast implementation of the National Policy and Action Plan against Left-wing extremism (LWE) has resulted in consistent decline in Maoist violence across the affected states, with the number of incidents down by 76% in 2022 from a high of 2010, resultant deaths down by 90% and the arc of LWE violence constricted to 45 districts in 2022 from 96 in 2010.
Sharing this assessment in written reply to a question in the Lok Sabhajunior home minister Nityanand Rai informed that a substantial decrease in incidence of LWE violence was seen in the last five years, with all-India incidents down by 36% in 2022 as compared to 2018 and the resultant security forces and civilian deaths witnessing a 59% decline over the same period. LWE incidents across the affected states were down to 413 in 2022 from 833 in 2018, and resultant deaths to 98 from 240 in the same period.
In Chhattisgarh alone, Rai said, LWE incidents were down 22% to 246 in 2022 from 392 in 2021 and resultant deaths by 60%, falling to 101 in 2022 from 153 in 2021.
