MEA denies report it issued 'secret memo' on Nijjar to missions

NEW DELHI: The ministry of external affairs strongly denied a media report that it issued a “secret memo” to Indian missions in North America in April this year, seeking “concrete measures” against Khalistan leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Nijjar was shot dead in June this year.
“We strongly assert that such reports are fake and completely fabricated. There is no such memo,” said the MEA spokesperson, adding that the report was part of a sustained disinformation campaign against India.
“The outlet (The Intercept) in question is known for propagating fake narratives peddled by Pakistani intelligence. The posts of the authors confirm this linkage,” said the official. “Those who amplify such fake news only do so at the cost of their own credibility,” he added.
In September, Canadian PM Justin Trudeau made the allegation of a “potential” involvement of Indian agents in the killing of Khalistani extremist Nijjar on Canadian soil on June 18.
