Gandhinagar: Minister of Industry Balvantsinh Rajput concluded a three-day visit to Malaysia with a focus on exploring economic and cultural collaborations between Gujarat and Malaysia. The primary objective was to invite Malaysia to participate in the upcoming VGGS 2024. During his visit, the minister engaged in discussions with Liew Chin Tong, deputy minister of investment, trade, and industry of the Malaysian government, to explore opportunities for collaboration.

Malaysia has abolished the visa requirement for Indians traveling for leisure and business, starting from December 1. The visa-free entry will continue until December 2024, as confirmed by the tourism ministry. This move is expected to significantly boost inbound tourism from India, with an estimated increase of 30%-45% in annual tourist arrivals. Indian-origin travel operators in Malaysia anticipate surpassing the pre-pandemic figure of 735,309 Indian tourists in 2019. The MICE sector, in particular, is expected to experience a surge, as Malaysia is viewed as a strategic and affordable venue for business activities in the Asean region.
