Vastrapur Lake: Vastrapur Lake May Receive ₹5cr Facelift | Ahmedabad News

Ahmedabad: Last year, the Vastrapur lake got damaged due to heavy rainfall during monsoon season and the walkway in the lower promenade and the lake wall got badly damaged at five spots. After one and a half years, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has woken up to repair and renovate the lake.
The water and sewerage committee will table and discuss a proposal to repair and renovate the lake at an estimated expenditure of Rs 5.15 crore on December 4.During last year’s monsoon, a portion of the wall behind Narsinh Mehta statue at the lake got damaged. There are big potholes on the walkway on the lower promenade and almost all the gates and railings are severely damaged. The lake also has a severe infestation of rats and other rodents.
When the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (Auda) developed the lake in 2003, four fountains were installed and an amusement park was built on the premises. All fountains are dysfunctional. The damaged walkways, walls, railings and gates will be renovated if the proposal is approved by the committee.

Bondvol lake was emptied after valve tampered with
The Bondvol lake at Vhoddlem Bhat, Santa Cruz, has been drained due to tampering with a valve operated by the water resources department, according to a complaint filed by the Calapur comunidade. The lake’s water is only released when it is overflowing. The entire water body was found emptied during a site visit, causing surprise and suspicion. The lake, recognized as a wetland by the Goa State Wetland Authority, provides ecological services and is used by the comunidade and villagers for various purposes. The public works department plans to start a water treatment plant at the lake.
